Find Parking in Old Louisville

The neighborhood known as Old Louisville consists of 48 blocks, and it was originally a suburb of Louisville.  Old Louisville features some of the nation's greatest Victorian architecture.  Rich, brick homes with intricate stained glass windows differentiate Old Louisville from other Derby City neighborhoods.  The neighborhood is also rich with entertainment culture.  Old Louisville featured the forerunner to Churchill Downs, Oakland Race Track, which was located near Seventh and Ormsby streets; the neighborhood also hosted the Southern Exposition from 1883 to 1887.

Old Louisville has been compared to Georgetown and Beacon Hill.  This was especially the case in the middle of the 20th century when the neighborhood was fighting the suburban flight of many of its residents.  Restoring homes in Old Louisville in the 1960s, journalist J. Douglass Nunn raised awareness of the historical importance of the area.  By 1975, so much attention had been brought to the area that it became a historic preservation district.  With increased recognition, tourism in the neighborhood increased which improved business but made parking in Old Louisville more difficult.  For visitors, parking in Old Louisville can be an expensive proposition; for homeowners without adequate parking, parking in Old Louisville is nothing short of stressful.
